MT CASS WIND FARM - Visual
To capture the best available wind, turbines must be located on ridges and will thus become prominent visible features in the landscape. There are many factors that affect the visibility of the wind farm. These include the viewpoint, the weather, time of the day and colour of the turbines.
The most frequented views of the wind farm are around 5 kilometres away. At this distance and considering the large scale of the landscape, the slender forms, the light-shade factor and a landscape already modified by farming and forestry, the visual effects will not diminish the overall landscape quality.
Our plans to limit the visual impactTo limit the visual impact of the wind farm, MainPower will:
- Arrange the turbines to follow in a single row along the ridge thus minimising the cluttered appearance that occurs when many turbines overlap.
- Locate temporary and permanent buildings and the substation away from high-visibility areas.
- Select a colour that allows the turbines to blend into the surrounding environment over as great a range of conditions as possible, within the colour range available from the manufacturer.
- Locate the main access road and transmission line on the south side of the hill. The transmission line will be supported on poles not pylons.
