MT CASS WIND FARM - Traffic
Large turbine components will be trucked along State Highway 1 from Timaru Port causing minimal disruption to roading infrastructure and road users except for minor delays on some bridges. MainPower is committed to limiting disruption associated with wind farm related traffic. Any increases in wind farm related traffic will be short term, during construction. During operation traffic will be negligible.
Construction traffic is only a small proportion (under 10%) of the projected traffic volumes on Mount Cass Road and is only for a short duration (approximately 15 months). Mt Cass Road has sufficient spare capacity that driving conditions will remain at the highest standard for road users.
Our plans to limit the traffic impact
To reduce the disruption associated with wind farm related traffic, MainPower will:
- Develop a traffic management plan in consultation with the community and traffic authorities
- Use as many on site materials as possible
- Manufacture concrete on site
- Move oversized turbine components only in off-peak times.
